3/30 Summary

As always, great call. Our group clarified the format of the presentation: conversation hour. I added an introductory statement that described how our session fits and expands that presentation category.

We identified the proposal sections that needed to be fleshed out/added/revised:
1.Research design, measurement strategy, data collection, and data analysis will be lumped together and Patti and Brandon will work to describe our method as a conceptual review (similar to that of Rogers) and an example of a genealogical work (much like Foucault).
2.Interpretation of findings: we agreed to float 3 preliminary findings from the existing literature as exemplars of a non-comprehensive review. I added our conversation notes to the proposal.
3.Scholarly Implications/Relevance to the Field: we brainstormed those and I added them to the proposal.
4.Audience appeal/interaction: Kathleen is re-working that section to back off of the structure and to loosely define the areas of discussion, critical self-reflection, and research exploration.
We agreed to hold a follow-up call next Tuesday at 11, EST.

A few interactive activities were suggested by Patti: we prepare a 10 page product for the session and from that develop a one-pager for session participants: it could have four examples of how reciprocity is being used in current literature (maybe in a grid); a quote on the genealogical approach from foucault or the concept review by Rogers; short bullet point overview of the various disciplinary perspectives. We could use index cards to have participants reflect on prompts, but we could also gather them and use them to help us structure our agenda/review.

We made a few process notes for the RWG: in the future (once this proposal has been turned in and we are able to start working on the written product), we will encourage our members to provide a 20 minute lay-overview of topics that are necessary to our joint work. For example, Brandon will provide a mini-seminar on Foucault's genealogical method so that when we start to prepare our written concept review we can ground it in that method. This mini-seminar won't happen until May. Future mini-seminars will be provided by members as they are needed.

The version of the document we are now working on is reciprocity_panel_version_2. It is in dropbox with my notes/sections added.
